Overview
This course will be divided into three parts.
Part I: Statistical Tests (2 lectures)
In this part of the course, you will learn about several of the standard tests used to analyze data from experiments involving human participants. The course will focus on: one-way ANOVA, two-way ANOVA, repeated measures ANOVA, and nonparametric alternatives.
Part II: Interpreting Analyses (1 lecture)
In this part of the course, you will learn how to interpret the results presented in other work (e.g., journals, conferences, etc.). You will learn about typically accepted practice, common mistakes found in current literature, and when to suspend judgement about results that are being presented to you.
Part III: Designing a Study (1 lecture)
In this part of the course, you will learn how to design a study of your own. We will discuss the different forms of statistical validity and how to avoid common problems in study design.
Evaluation
You will be given a (short) assignment following each of the first three lectures. Each assignment will be gone over at the beginning of the following lecture. You are also encouraged to analyze a dataset of your own (or I can provide one for you) and I will provide feedback on your analysis.
No grades will be assigned.
